Clonacody House

In previous blog posts this summer I have been exploring different parts of our beautiful country that is Ireland. Today I’m staying very close to home in my home county, Tipperary. A couple of months back I was invited to an editorial shoot (more to come on this) that was taking place at Clonacody House and of course I jumped at the opportunity to visit this hidden gem.

Located just outside the village of Fethard, Clonacody is a stunning Georgian house with extensive grounds perfect for a weekend getaway. The house is also available for self-catered private hire making it the perfect place for dinner parties, wedding receptions, family reunions etc.

Having studied and worked in events when I heard they opened for private parties my mind started working over-time. I started picturing stunning summer parties, gazebos, Clonacody’s vibrant gardens, refreshing cocktails and then leading into Christmas parties with roaring fires, sloe gin, mulled wine… the options are endless when you have the venue!

As I walked through the grounds with all this planning going on in my head I even found someone to listen to me.

Whilst Clonacody may seem quiet and remote, it is located in the centre of a hive of activity. Below I have put together a list of my favourite things to do and places to visit in the area.

Must Sees and Dos

Slievenamon Mountains – Perfect for climbing and the views are simply stunning.
Fethard Horse Country Experience – Recently opened FHC offers visitors the opportunity to discover the rich culture, heritage and history associated with the area.
Hunting & Fishing – Tipperary Fox hounds meet regularly during the hunting season and fishing is available at the River Suir Clonmel, Anner River Killusty and the Clashawley River Fethard. Visit www.hai.ie for more information.
Cashel Town – around a 20 minute drive from Clonacody, Cashel is always buzzing with excellent places to dine including the newly opened Mikey Ryans, Chez Hans, Baileys Cellar Restaurant etc. Also why not take a tour of the famous Rock Of Cashel.
Cahir Castle – located in Cahir, another beautiful town around the same distance as Cashel. Cahir Castle is built on the river and extremely picturesque with lovely paths to stroll along. On Saturday’s a market takes place just outside the Castle with some delicious homemade goods on offer, it’s hard to pass.
Dooks Fine Foods – situated in Fethard itself, Dooks is the ultimate breakfast/lunch/brunch spot!

I haven’t listed half of the things on offer in the area but Clonacody’s owner Helen Carrigan, knows the area like the back of her hand and can give you many recommendations based on your interests.

Now I have put that list together it has reminded me I need to get a move on and visit some of these places again soon. When you live somewhere you almost forget all the great things it has to offer.

As beautiful on the inside as it is on the outside Clonacody House really is a venue for all season. So there you have it ladies and gents, your next weekend getaway.
