Fake tan is something I’ve never been a fan off but yet I wouldn’t like to not have it around. I much prefer a natural sun kissed glow but the other side of the coin is it’s not the best for your skin. However, over the years I have narrowed down my selection and have a list of ‘go to’ tans. These vary from gradual to instant tans and also what I use to apply them etc. If you like a natural tan but not too dark this could be for you.
Sun Kiss Velvet Mitt & Cocoa Brown Tough Stuff
Before I start tanning I like to get the basics right and without being dramatic this Sun Kiss velvet tanning mitt has definitely improved my tanning skills. Tan glides on much easier with this mitt, I think it’s the velvet fabric and it’s machine washable. Also before I tan I exfoliate using Cocoa Brown Tough Stuff – it works well and isn’t too expensive.
Cocoa Brown 1 Hour Tan
As far as instant tans go I think this is one of the best in the business. You can see it going on, it doesn’t smell too bad (lets face it they all smell a bit), it’s not too expensive and if you make a mistake you can fix it up. Also it doesn’t give you that orange look or ruin your clothes. I find it a little drying on my skin, but I think they all are to a degree. I’ve got a product for combating this later on.
Sun Kiss Tanning Mist
This product was sent to me by Market Match PR and like any product I like to try it but I’m always a little sceptical. It has similar attributes to the Cocoa Brown 1 Hour Tan, I reach for this when I’m looking for a darker glow. It goes on like a spray tan would so be careful where you apply it. I stand on a dark towel preferable on tiles. However once on and allowed to dry it won’t destroy your bed sheets or your clothes. It actually has quite a nice smell and isn’t to drying. It also comes in a mousse but I haven’t tried it yet.
Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs
I apply this on my legs if I’m going out with bare legs. I usually apply it over the tan I’ve put on the night before. It evens out an patches and gives your legs a smooth, even finish. I use the Sun Kiss velvet mitt to apply this too. Just remember with this a little goes a long way. I usually opt for shade medium.
Garnier Summer Body Lotion Light Sun-Kissed
This is a product that has been around for years and in my opinion has definitely stood the test of time. It is my go to moisturiser for the summer when you feel like you need that extra glow. It is available in supermarkets and chemist retailing for €3.99. It isn’t super moisturising, however I only apply it approx. every second day and balance it out with my normal moisturiser. I apply this with my hands but make sure to wash them after.
Bondi Sands Gradual Tan Lotion
This is another gradual tan I like. It gives a darker glow than the above Garnier one but isn’t as moisturising. It has a very light consistency and soaks in very quickly. It’s a great one to throw on after your shower in the morning. Again I apply this with my hands but wash after.
La Roche-Posay Lipikar Baume AP+
Finally this La Roche-Posay cream is a miracle worker. You have probably heard be going on about this a lot but it literally is a game changer. I suffer with dry skin and used to have eczema. Whenever I feel my skin is irritated I just put this on and it clears up straight away. It is an excellent daily moisturiser and also great to apply when using instant tan. It is also a great product if you are going with bare legs, it gives them a shine that last for hours. They often offer half price on this so keep an eye out.
