Picturesque Prague

…And boy was it picturesque. Having never travelled anywhere in Eastern Europe I wasn’t sure what to expect, all I knew was the reports were good! We flew Aer Lingus there and back from Dublin, and stayed in the Mandarin Oriental Hotel which was exquisite. The June Bank Holiday weekend was the ideal time to go as the weather was getting warm but not too hot for sightseeing. However, I believe Prague can be just as beautiful in winter-check out my fellow blogger Fashion Boss’s post here. Arriving late afternoon on the Friday evening we settled into our hotel and went for a roam around to get our bearings. We happened to stumble upon this little gem by the river, perfect for some light refreshments.

Saturday morning, we rose early ready to see all Prague had to offer. Crossing over the iconic Charles Bridge, exploring the Old Town, and then on to the Old Town Square where we saw the beautiful Astronomical clock. The architecture and attention to detail in this city is nothing short of outstanding. We bought tickets for a boat ride down the river which was the best €26.00 (each) we spent. It helped us get a grip on location and where everything was situated. Lunch was also included in the ticket price…bonus! Later that evening we went to see the ballet at the Estates Theatre. Retiring to the ‘Little Blue Duckling’ for dinner, which has seen the likes of Valentino pass through its doors, we sampled some Czechoslovakian food. I opted for confit of duck, with a Czechoslovakian twist, it was delicious.

Sunday we headed to Prague Castle which is breath taking! With various different buildings and beautiful gardens we spent a large part of the day here. The temperatures got pretty hot mid afternoon, so we decided to hitch a ride home. Travelling in style we did another tour of the city making sure we hadn’t missed out on any hidden gems. Our guide Milan was so informative and helpful, as were all the locals that we met!

Monday arrived and we couldn’t believe it was time to go home! We took it easy, wandering up to Charles Bridge to get one last look at the spectacular city before catching our flight home. I would highly recommend Prague for a city break. Prague, I hope to be back soon… we might even bump into this little fella again!
